Yorkshire Water

At least 159 of its monitored storm overflows sit within 5km of a bathing water on the regulators’ lists. Those 22 bathing waters are listed below, with today’s verdict for each.

Checking…

This is not a league table and cannot be read as one. Companies do not get comparable stretches of coast, and counting spills against each other would say more about how much coastline each one covers than about how it behaves. What this page answers is narrower and more useful: if you swim near here, whose pipes are they.

An overflow being quiet is not the same as an overflow being clean, and a monitor that is offline is a gap rather than an all clear. Both are shown as such on each beach page.

This feed. Yorkshire Water publishes the live status of its storm overflows, one row per monitor, saying whether each is discharging now. 159 of them sit within 5km of a listed bathing water, touching 22 of them, and those are the only ones read here — an overflow with no bathing water near it has nobody to warn. A discharge counts as recent on this site for 48 hours after it ends.

Where it stops. A monitor says whether an overflow is spilling, not what is in it and not whether it reaches the water. Distance is a straight line: tides and currents decide what actually arrives at a beach, and nothing here models them.
